CRSS 2830 - Sports Turf and Lawn Management
Oasis Title: Sports Turf and Lawn Management. 1 hour

This is a survey-type course that provides an overview of management
practices used for maintaining lawn areas and sports fields. Basic
principles presented include proper selection of turfgrasses, establishment,
fertilization, irrigation, mowing, etc. Classroom discussions and
guest speakers will present information on the turf management practices
used at Augusta National Golf Club and Turner Field. Students will
tour Sanford Stadium, Foley Field and other area sports fields as
time permits. Offered fall semester every year. Non-traditional format:

CRSS 3270 - Turf Management
Oasis Title: TURF MGT. 3 hours.

Turf management practices and systems. Species selection, establishment,
irrigation,, mowing, fertilization, cultivation, thatch control, growth
regulators, as well as weed, insect and disease control. Discussions
will include the benefits of turfgrasses to society and various environmental
issues impacting the turfgrass industry. Offered spring semester every

CRSS 3270L - Turf Management Laboratory
Oasis Title: TURF MGT LAB. 1 hour.
This laboratory provides students with hands-on experience with turfgrass
management practices and systems. Turfgrass seed, weed, disease and
insect identification, as well as sprayer and spreader calibration
are covered. Field trips to various types of turfgrass facilities
are an important aspect of the course. Offered spring semester every

CRSS 3930 - Turfgrass Internship
Oasis Title: TRFGRASS INTERN. 1-3 (variable)
The objectives of the turfgrass internship program are to apply classroom knowledge to a real-world situation and to gain valuable work experience prior to graduation. The internship program is designed so that the student views the operation of a turfgrass facility/business from the standpoint of the turfgrass manager or supervisor. The student is exposed to the many facets involved in various operations including budgeting, record keeping, personnel management, turf management, equipment care, etc. The internship is usually completed during the summer months and the student can receive up to 5 hours classroom credit.
CRSS 4090 - Advanced Turfgrass Science
Oasis Title: ADV TURF SCI. 3 hours.
Prerequisite: CRSS 2830 or CRSS 3270-3270L or permission of major.
The effect of the environment of turfgrass growth and quality management
strategies for overcoming high and low temperature stress, as well
as light and water deficits. Other topics include soil modification,
golf green construction, developing fertilization programs and discussions
of various pesticides/environmental issues. Offered fall semester

CRSS 4270 - Career Prepartion and Professionalism
Oasis Title: Career Preparation and Professionalism. 1 hour.
Prerequisite: None.

This course covers the necessary components of becoming a professional in any field. Topics include: Personality analysis, developing a mission statement, writing goals, telephone, cell phone, voice mail, e-mail and business etiquette. Other topics discussed include; professional presence, active listening, dress for success, dining do's and don'ts, the design and importance of business cards, how to run a successful meeting and even how to properly shake a person's hand. Resume writing , resume cover letters and how to prepare for and conduct oneself during a job interview will also be covered. Guest speakers and mock interviews will be featured in the course. This is a very practical, useful and fun course.
